On Saturday, June 15, guest speakers gave talks to attendees at the Park Central Hotel, NYC, on several sculpture topics followed by Q & A with the audience. Harold Holzer, noted author and historian, discussed the career of Daniel Chester French and signed copies of his book Monument Man: The Life & Art of Daniel Chester French. Donna Hassler, Executive Director of Chesterwood, shared Daniel Chester's artistic life at his Berkshire home and studio, Chesterwood; and Jason Arkles, host of "The Sculptor's Funeral" podcast, discussed the purpose and future of figurative sculpture. The evening capped off with the Honors and Awards Dinner celebrating the 2019 award recipients. This year the six honors went to: NSS Fellow Eugene Daub, Anne Olsen Daub, The City of Santa Fe Springs, CA represented by Lesley A. Elwood, and Robert McMahon (The Henry Hering Art and Architecture Award); Ellen Woodbury (The Marilyn Newmark Memorial Grant); Robert J. Spring (Sculpture House Annual Award); Sergio De Giusti (The Stanley Bleifeld Memorial Grant); Steff Rocknak (The Alex J. Ettl Grant); Daniel Willig (The Dexter Jones Award).
